Morocco Reaffirms Commitment to Autonomy Initiative in Meeting Between Boureita and De Mistura
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Boureita, affirmed the kingdom’s steadfast position on the issue of Western Sahara during a working session held last Monday in New York with the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, at the latter’s request.
The meeting also included the Permanent Representative of Morocco to the United Nations, Omar Hilale, and served as part of De Mistura’s consultations in preparation for upcoming deliberations at the United Nations Security Council on the matter.
On this occasion, the Moroccan delegation reiterated the foundations established by King Mohammed VI for resolving the regional dispute, which involve reaching a realistic, pragmatic, and lasting political settlement based exclusively on the Moroccan autonomy initiative within the framework of the kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The delegation also highlighted Morocco’s full support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy, noting the growing momentum in the international dynamic supporting Morocco’s position on Western Sahara, as well as the increasing recognition of the Moroccan autonomy initiative as the sole realistic option for resolving the conflict.
