Morocco and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Sign Agreement to Enhance Cooperation in Civil Aviation Safety and Security

In a move to strengthen bilateral cooperation, Morocco and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) signed a new agreement regarding management services on Saturday in Montreal, on the sidelines of the 42nd Assembly of the organization.

The agreement, signed by Moroccan Minister of Transport and Logistics Abdel Samad Guioh and ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar, aims to deepen cooperation between the two parties in training and technical support, particularly concerning civil aviation safety and security.

In a press statement following the signing ceremony, which was also attended by the ICAO Council President Salvatore Sciacchitano, Salazar praised the advanced level of partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the organization, pointing out the significant role played by the Moroccan delegation at the general assembly.

The ICAO Secretary General also announced the organization of a global seminar on supporting the implementation of civil aviation standards, which will take place in Marrakech in April 2026, considering this event a significant milestone in enhancing air safety and solidifying relations with Morocco.

For his part, the Council President emphasized that the Marrakech seminar holds strategic importance due to its role in supporting the development of the civil aviation sector at the international level.

Minister Abdel Samad Guioh expressed his appreciation for the role that ICAO plays in supporting Morocco’s efforts to develop its aviation sector, highlighting major projects undertaken by the Kingdom in this field, such as the modernization and expansion of airport infrastructure aimed at doubling the number of passengers from 40 to 80 million annually by 2030, alongside enhancing safety standards and expanding the fleet of Royal Air Maroc.

The Minister added that organizing the fifth global seminar on supporting implementation in Marrakech represents an excellent opportunity to showcase the Moroccan experience and exchange expertise with other international partners in the field of civil aviation.

ICAO has commended Morocco’s significant progress in air safety oversight during the ongoing general assembly from September 23 to October 3, presenting Minister Guioh with a certificate of appreciation for the Kingdom’s efforts in aligning its systems with international standards and practices.

Morocco is participating in this session with a high-level delegation led by the Minister of Transport and Logistics, which held a series of bilateral meetings with officials from various countries and representatives from international organizations to deepen technical and operational cooperation in the civil aviation sector.
