Mauritanian Miners Victims of Polisario Rowdiness on the Border

Mauritanian Miners Victims of Polisario Rowdiness on the Border

- in International

In a serious development reflecting the ongoing threats posed by the Polisario Front to security and stability in the region, a number of Mauritanian prospectors north of Zouérat, near the Algerian border, were subjected to an armed attack carried out by elements affiliated with the separatist front supported by Algeria.

The attack resulted in the confiscation of the prospectors’ belongings and vehicles, alongside direct threats urging them to stay away from Algerian territory, which the Polisario has turned into an illegitimate sphere of influence where it operates freely with the support and protection of the Algerian regime.

This aggression compelled the Mauritanian prospectors to retreat approximately 200 meters into national territory, where they staged a sit-in at the Majhar Al-Rayah area to protest the repeated assaults by these militias.

This incident once again underscores that the Polisario Front, which does not hesitate to provoke Mauritania and its neighbors, represents one of the most significant hotspots of tension and insecurity in the region, due to the political, military, and logistical support provided by Algeria, making Mauritania’s northern border an open arena for dangerous practices that threaten the stability of the entire area.
