Managem Begins Gold Production from the Boudu Mine in Senegal and Confirms Its Strategy in West Africa

Yesterday, Tuesday, September 2, the Managem Group announced the production of its first gold bar from the Boudu mine located in Medina Bay, in the Kédougou region of Senegal. This official operation marks the beginning of site exploitation, confirming the group’s strategy in West Africa.

With a total budget of €350 million, the Boudu project is one of the most significant mining projects in Senegal. The mine aims for an average annual production of 160,000 ounces of gold, roughly 5 tons, during the first three years. Reserves are estimated at 1.8 million ounces, or about 56 tons, with an operational duration of around 12 years.

Advanced Infrastructure

The site features an open-pit mine capable of processing 35 million tons of rock annually, in addition to a plant that can process 2.75 million tons of ore each year. To support these operations, essential facilities have been established, including a power station with a capacity of 23 megawatts, a dam, a tailings dam, a fuel depot, residential base, and a runway.

Job Opportunities and Economic Impact

During peak construction, over 2,500 people were employed, with 90% of the workforce being Senegalese. The project is expected to generate more than 1,500 direct and indirect jobs, contributing to the revitalization of the local economy and community in the Kédougou region.

A Project with Strong Local Impact

As part of its commitment to sustainable development, Managem has launched a social responsibility program since the construction phase, aimed at improving access to safe drinking water, health services, vocational training, and increasing employment opportunities for youth and women. The project also supports income-generating initiatives for local communities.

Emad Toumi, CEO of Managem Group, stated, “I am delighted to see this project realized after a long wait from local communities, and it is a source of development for the entire region. The launch of Boudu represents our ambition to become a key player in the gold industry in West Africa. This success is the result of the commitment and dedication of our teams in close collaboration with the Senegalese authorities, reflecting our vision for sustainable growth founded on operational excellence, respect for the environment, and care for local communities.”
