Karkarat: Foiling of Smuggling 196 Kilograms of Hashish towards Sub-Saharan Africa
A joint security operation between national police and customs at the Karkarat border crossing, south of Dakhla, resulted in the thwarting of an international smuggling attempt of 196 kilograms of hashish on Wednesday, September 24.
The drug shipments were hidden within a load of household furniture on a truck registered in Morocco, which was en route to one of the sub-Saharan African countries. Inspection procedures, aided by police dogs, led to the seizure and the arrest of the 34-year-old driver.
The competent judicial authorities have opened an investigation to uncover the circumstances of the case and identify other perpetrators, as well as to trace the regional and international connections of these criminal acts.
This operation is part of the continuous efforts of security and customs authorities at the Karkarat crossing to combat international drug trafficking networks and to eliminate the sources of cross-border crime.
