Italy and the world mourn the loss of renowned designer Giorgio Armani
On Thursday, the Armani Group announced the death of legendary Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani at the age of 91, following a decline in his health over the past few months.
In a statement, the group expressed: “It is with profound sadness that the Armani Group announces the passing of its founder, Giorgio Armani.” The world-renowned designer had to miss two of the men’s fashion shows during Milan Fashion Week last June, and he was also absent from the “Armani Privé” show in Paris in July.
Italian Culture Minister Alessandro Giuli mourned the loss with heartfelt words, stating, “With the passing of Giorgio Armani, one of the icons of Italian culture has left us. He knew how to transform elegance into a universal language, and his simple yet innovative style reshaped the relationship between fashion, cinema, and society.” Giuli emphasized that Armani was an ambassador of Italian identity worldwide, not just a master in the fashion world.
Giorgio Armani is considered one of the most significant fashion symbols of the twentieth century. He established his fashion house in Milan in 1975, choosing to keep it independent rather than listing its shares on the stock market. Since then, he has solidified his name as an icon of refined simplicity and timeless elegance.
