The Prime Minister of Morocco, Aziz Akhannouch, stated in his speech at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York that artificial intelligence (AI) has quickly become a revolutionary force capable of reshaping economies and our way of life, creating immense opportunities for development. However, he emphasized that it also presents significant challenges that require responsible and ethical management.
Akhannouch explained that AI should not become a tool for exclusion or discrimination, but rather serve as a lever for shared progress. He stressed its practical application in key sectors such as health, education, agriculture, and other vital areas.
The Prime Minister added that betting on AI has become a strategic necessity, and ignoring it means missing out on significant economic opportunities. He affirmed that adopting AI necessitates a restructuring of the job market and adapting to the rapid changes imposed by this new technological field. He clarified that Morocco is pursuing this direction through the “Digital Morocco 2030” strategy, which aims to invest in AI ethically and responsibly to achieve sustainable development.
