Moroccan National Team Faces Must-Win Situation to Secure Progress in “CHAN”

The Moroccan national team of local players finds itself compelled to achieve victory in its upcoming match against Zambia, scheduled for this Thursday at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi, as part of the fourth round of the group stage of the African Nations Championship for local players.

This urgency follows a defeat against Kenya by a score of 1-0, which has placed the “Atlas Lions” in a shared third position with the Democratic Republic of Congo, each holding three points.

The Moroccan team enters the match with its sights set on securing three points to avoid complicated qualification scenarios, especially after a promising start in the tournament with a 2-0 win over Angola and an impressive record of 14 unbeaten matches in the competition. They hope to regain their balance against Zambia to continue their journey towards the knockout stages.

Kenya, having achieved a historic victory over Morocco, benefits from a bye in the next round, allowing them extra time to prepare for their final group match against Zambia, aiming to reach the quarter-finals for the first time in its history. Meanwhile, Angola, positioned second with four points, seeks to secure qualification by defeating the twice-champion Democratic Republic of Congo and ensuring a spot in the quarter-finals.

Tanzania has already secured the first qualification spot from Group B after achieving three consecutive victories against Burkina Faso (2-0), Mauritania (1-0), and Madagascar (2-1), demonstrating a strong offensive performance. Mauritania currently holds second place with four points from a win, a draw, and a loss, but faces a threat from Burkina Faso, sitting third with three points, which they will meet in a decisive match.

Chances look slim for Madagascar, with one point, and the Central African Republic, with none, in their pursuit of one of the two qualifying spots, given the strength of the other competitors and their desire to secure a spot in the quarter-finals.
