Security Report: 38 Dead and 2,848 Injured in One Week Due to Traffic Accidents in Moroccan Cities

During the week from July 28 to August 3, Moroccan cities experienced a heavy toll from traffic accidents, with 38 fatalities and 2,848 injuries, including 115 serious cases, resulting from 2,136 recorded traffic incidents within urban areas, according to the General Directorate of National Security.

The directorate attributed the causes of these accidents, in order of their importance, to various reckless behaviors, primarily the inattention of drivers and pedestrians, failure to respect right-of-way, and excessive speed, along with other errors such as driving under the influence, ignoring traffic signals, failing to stop at stop signs, and driving in prohibited directions.

Regarding monitoring and enforcement measures, the same source indicated that the security services recorded a total of 43,372 traffic violations, with 6,146 reports submitted to the public prosecutor’s office. Additionally, 37,226 fines were collected, amounting to 7,862,150 dirhams.

During the same period, 4,828 vehicles were impounded, 6,146 documents were confiscated, and 373 vehicles violating traffic laws were detained.
