Morocco Maintains Its Position Among the Largest Importers of Chinese Solar Panels

Morocco ranked sixth among Arab countries in imports of Chinese solar panels during the first half of 2025, according to data from the Energy Research Unit. The volume of imports reached approximately 0.54 gigawatts, slightly down from 0.68 gigawatts for the same period in 2024.

Saudi Arabia led the list of the largest Arab importers of solar panels in the first six months of 2025, despite a decrease in imports to 4.49 gigawatts compared to 8.16 gigawatts in the first half of last year, as the kingdom accelerated its renewable energy projects.

The UAE came in second after increasing its imports to 3.18 gigawatts, up from 2.03 gigawatts during the same period in 2024, while Iraq placed third with imports rising to 0.95 gigawatts compared to 0.14 gigawatts last year.

Algeria surged to fourth place with imports of 0.85 gigawatts after being limited to one month of imports in 2024, while Egypt ranked fifth with 0.55 gigawatts, down from 0.77 gigawatts during the same period last year.

Jordan ranked seventh with 0.49 gigawatts, followed by Yemen with 0.41 gigawatts, Sudan in ninth place with 0.37 gigawatts compared to 0.02 in 2024, and finally Lebanon with 0.28 gigawatts.

Overall, imports of Chinese solar panels for Arab countries declined to 12.52 gigawatts in the first half of 2025, compared to 14.94 gigawatts for the same period in 2024, influenced by shifts in rankings and the entrance of new markets such as Iraq, Algeria, and Sudan, while Oman exited the list of the top ten importers.
