Morocco Grants 200 Scholarships to Nigerien Students to Strengthen South-South Educational Partnership
Morocco and Niger continue their long-standing cooperation in the field of education through a scholarship program aimed at enhancing human capital, as part of their strategic South-South partnership.
During a joint committee meeting between the two countries held in Niamey from August 4 to 6, 2025, it was decided to allocate 200 scholarships for Nigerien students for the 2025-2026 academic year, consisting of 150 scholarships for higher education and technical studies and 50 scholarships for vocational training, covering various fields such as medicine, engineering, sciences, arts, law, and economics.
The selection process was overseen by a joint committee led on the Moroccan side by the Chargé d’Affaires at the Moroccan Embassy in Niamey, Jaafar Dabarah, with representatives from the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation (AMCI) and the embassy. The Nigerien Agency for Scholarships and Subsidies (ANAB) handled the coordination from the Nigerien side.
This program dates back to 1990 and has benefited more than 2,000 Nigerien students since its launch, while approximately 700 students are currently studying in Morocco. The program is part of a broader collaboration that extends beyond education to include health, agriculture, culture, energy, and transport, thereby enhancing bilateral economic cooperation.
The Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation plays a crucial role in managing these scholarships, overseeing logistical organization, beneficiary selection, and ensuring funding covers tuition and living expenses, along with monthly allowances and additional support as needed.
