Global food prices soared to their highest level in over two years during July 2025, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The organization clarified in a statement released today, Friday, that this increase is primarily due to rising prices for meat and vegetable oils.
The FAO highlighted that the gains in meat and oils outweighed the declines recorded in grains, dairy products, and sugar, which led to an overall rise in food prices. The FAO Food Price Index, which measures monthly changes in prices of a basket of essential goods, registered 130.1 points in July, reflecting a 1.6% increase compared to June.
