A police inspector in Rissani resorted to using his service weapon to neutralize an armed and wanted individual on Friday, August 23. The suspect, aged 28 and with a significant criminal record, was in an agitated state and threatened the public’s safety and the security of police officers with a sharp weapon.

The police intervened after receiving a distress call to emergency line “19” from a woman who was subjected to violence and held against her will by her husband. Upon arrival of the nearest patrol, the suspect confronted the officers with violent resistance using the weapon, prompting the police inspector to fire warning shots before injuring him in his lower limbs.

This intervention successfully neutralized the threat before the suspect fled the scene. A background check revealed that he was subject to a national search warrant for suspected drug trafficking and for preparing and selling alcoholic beverages without a license.

During a search of his residence in the rural area of Qsar al-Batni, the police seized 160 liters of fermented liquids used in the production of illicit alcohol, alongside equipment and gas bottles utilized for distillation.

Investigations led to the suspect’s arrest on Saturday morning, and he has been placed in custody pending further judicial inquiry overseen by the relevant public prosecutor’s office to uncover all circumstances and details of the case.
