A court in Berrchid has sentenced a young man involved in the tragic accident that led to the injury of a girl named Ghita by a jet ski at Sidi Rahal beach to ten months in prison and a fine of 500 dirhams.

In addition, the court ordered compensation of 400,000 dirhams for the victim while excluding the insurance company from the case.

The incident, which evoked widespread sympathy among Moroccans, dates back to June when Ghita was playing in the sand before being struck by the jet ski, which was being towed by a four-wheel-drive vehicle driven by the accused, resulting in severe injuries.

Medical reports confirmed that Ghita suffered a skull fracture and pressure on the frontal lobe of the brain, necessitating urgent surgery to repair the bones and relieve the pressure, along with a deep wound on her scalp, abrasions, and a laceration in her right eyelid that required delicate suturing. She also lost consciousness upon arriving at the hospital.

The medical examination indicated that Ghita experiences a temporary total disability for 120 days and a permanent partial disability of 80%, requiring ongoing care and assistance in her daily life, as well as suffering from behavioral disorders, episodes of crying, involuntary urination, and difficulties sleeping, which mandate long-term treatment.

The victim’s father revealed in media statements that a relative of the accused attempted to bribe him, saying, “We have money,” which triggered a wave of outrage on social media, leading many to label the accused as “a spoiled child.” Nevertheless, the father asserted that the young man responsible for the incident assisted in transporting his daughter to a private clinic in Casablanca for treatment.
