Tripartite Partnership to Launch Innovative Marine Projects between UM6P, Maghreb Steel, and Naval Group

The Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), the Moroccan steel manufacturing group “Maghreb Steel,” and the French group “Naval” signed a preliminary cooperation agreement aimed at developing joint projects in the fields of research and innovation for marine technologies, both civilian and military.

This agreement focuses on three main areas: applied research, industrial skills development, and the establishment of a technological base dedicated to shipbuilding. It aligns with the national vision to enhance industrial sovereignty, in accordance with the Royal Atlas Initiative.

The cooperation stipulates implementing research and development projects in areas such as materials and structures, advanced manufacturing, and specific marine applications. These projects will be carried out in collaboration with UM6P’s research teams at its Ben Guerir campus, based on the industrial needs of “Maghreb Steel” and the technical expertise of the “Naval Group.”

This collaboration also relies on the support of the French Directorate General of Armaments (DGA), represented by Emmanuel Chiva at the signing ceremony. He confirmed the establishment of a joint armament committee that will oversee the strategic guidance of the projects.

This project supports Morocco’s ambitions to build an industrial and technological defense base (BITD), by creating an innovation hub that combines metal industries and shipbuilding, aiming to reduce external dependency and enhance national capabilities.
