Drâa-Tafilalet Region Enjoys Its First Motorway

The Drâa-Tafilalet region is aiming to strengthen its road infrastructure by constructing its first motorway connecting the cities of Midelt and Khenifra. This project was approved following the endorsement by the Drâa-Tafilalet Regional Council during its regular session, with a financial allocation of approximately 1 billion dirhams. The objective is to enhance the road network within the region and link it to neighboring areas.

Based on the discussions during the session, this project will align with the geographical characteristics of the region and will be implemented in collaboration with the relevant government sectors. This initiative is expected to be a significant boost for the region, particularly in supporting mountain tourism, which the area is renowned for, as well as alleviating isolation in several communities across all provincial regions.

The council also approved an agreement regarding the dualization of the road linking Hajeb to Merzouga, and the expansion of the road between Merzouga and Ouzina. Additionally, there is a partnership agreement to implement projects included in the 2025-2030 water resources development program and to enhance the road network in Tinghir province.
