Morocco Strengthens Its Position Among Spain’s Major Trade Partners in Agriculture and Fisheries

Morocco Strengthens Its Position Among Spain’s Major Trade Partners in Agriculture and Fisheries
A A

Morocco has strengthened its position as a key trading partner for Spain in the agriculture and fisheries sectors, ranking fifth among the largest destinations for exports in these areas last year, and third in terms of suppliers, according to official Spanish data.

A report from the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food for 2024 indicates that Spain’s exports of agricultural, food, and fish products to Morocco exceeded 1.223 billion euros, representing 4.8% of total sector exports, with a growth rate of nearly 6% compared to 2023.

According to the report, Spain’s exports to Morocco were led by soybean oil and live animals from the sheep, goat, and cattle families. In contrast, the value of Spanish agricultural and fish imports from Morocco amounted to over 2 billion euros, covering mollusks, red fruits, legumes, and vegetables.

The same report noted that total Spanish exports of agricultural and fish products exceeded 75 billion euros in 2024, with an annual growth rate of nearly 5%, granting the sector a share exceeding 19% of total Spanish exports, making it the most significant contributor to the country’s trade surplus.

Agricultural and fish imports increased by 1.4%, reaching approximately 55.86 billion euros, resulting in a trade surplus for the sector of over 19.23 billion euros, with an annual increase of 21.2%.

Despite the impacts of the war in Ukraine and the Middle East crisis, the Spanish agricultural and fish sector managed to achieve strong performance in 2024, with fruits topping the list of exported products, generating revenues exceeding 10.85 billion euros, followed by meats at 10.3 billion euros, and dairy products at 9.19 billion euros.

Moreover, exports of oils and fats showed remarkable growth, surpassing 26%, reaching 8.68 billion euros, while grain exports reached 495 million euros with an annual growth of 12%.
