Morocco is the third largest importer of cattle from Brazil

Morocco has continued to strengthen its imports of live cattle, ranking third globally among major livestock importers from Brazil, according to official data from Brazilian agricultural consulting firm Scott Consultoria. This shift aligns with a national strategy aimed at diversifying sources of animal supply in the face of increasing climatic challenges and their impact on local production.

Brazil’s exports of live cattle recorded a new high of over 111,000 heads in May, valued at approximately $105 million, reflecting a significant increase in demand from markets in the Middle East and North Africa. Morocco ranked third, following Turkey and Lebanon, with imports exceeding $16 million, accounting for more than 14,000 heads of cattle, most of which came from the state of Pará.

Turkey topped the list of importing countries with a value exceeding $42 million, followed by Lebanon with more than $18 million, and then Morocco. Iraq and Egypt recorded imports worth $14.5 million and $11.2 million, respectively. The Iraqi market was noted for paying the highest average price per kilogram of cattle, while Moroccan importers paid an average price of around 16.75 Brazilian reais per kilogram (equivalent to $3.08), particularly for cattle from the state of Tocantins.

Brazil’s export activity continued to rise until the third week of June, with the number of cattle exported during that month exceeding 45,000 heads, including 28,000 heads in just the third week. This indicates ongoing growth in Brazilian live cattle exports, while Morocco continues to diversify its international partners to secure its red meat needs and stabilize its domestic market.
