Morocco Becomes First Contributor to IOM’s Resilience Fund
The Director General of the International Organization for Migration, Amy Pope, announced that Morocco has become the first country to provide a financial contribution to the new Resilience Fund, launched by the organization to support rapid response to emergencies affecting migrants and communities impacted by crises.
In a message published on her official accounts on Monday, July 29, Pope stated that the Kingdom has made an exceptional voluntary contribution, emphasizing that this support enhances the organization’s ability to intervene flexibly and effectively wherever needed.
This announcement coincides with the launch of a new initiative by the organization aimed at mobilizing $100 million in unallocated financial resources, to strengthen its urgent interventions and ensure the continuity of its field services, primarily in protection, humanitarian assistance, and combating human trafficking.
According to Pope, this Moroccan contribution embodies the essence of the “Resilience” campaign initiated by the organization, which aims at mobilizing flexible resources that enable immediate and effective responses, achieving a tangible impact in areas of need.
This Moroccan step enhances the Kingdom’s position within the organization, as the fund is expected to finance field programs that include protecting migrants, combating human trafficking, and providing direct assistance in crisis hotspots.
In this context, the Director General of the organization noted that this initiative reflects Morocco’s ongoing commitment to its leading role in global migration governance, as well as its solidarity with vulnerable and mobile populations.
It is worth mentioning that Morocco has been a member of the International Organization for Migration since 1998 and plays an active role within its structures, particularly through its commitment to implementing the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, adopted in Marrakech in 2018.
