Increase in Electricity Production by 5.9%

The electrical energy sector in Morocco recorded a growth of 5.9% by the end of May 2025, according to the Directorate of Financial Studies and Forecasts. This increase is mainly attributed to the robust performance of private electricity generation, which rose by 8.4%, alongside an 8% boost in production from the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water.

However, renewable energy production, governed by Law 09-13, saw a notable decline of 14.8%, following a strong increase of 42.1% during the same period last year. This reflects fluctuations in the contribution of clean energy to the overall electricity output.

Morocco’s electricity imports grew by 8.7% by the end of May 2025, after experiencing a larger increase of 30% during the same period the previous year. In contrast, exports fell by 20.5%, within a context of a 5.7% increase in net energy, compared to a 3.3% rise during the first five months of 2024.

These figures highlight a varied dynamics within the electricity sector, with progress in domestic production, a decline in the contribution of renewable energies, and a slowdown in exports.
