Five Winners of Parliamentary Journalism Award Honored

Yesterday, Thursday, the winners of the fifth edition of the Parliamentary Journalism Award were honored at the House of Representatives, in the presence of Speaker of the House Rashid Talbi Alami and President of the House of Councillors Mohamed Walid Al-Rachid. The ceremony reflected the appreciation of both legislative institutions for serious and specialized media work in parliamentary affairs.

The honorary award went jointly to Ridouane Baqili, a journalist from the Maghreb Arab Press, and photographer Mohamed Hayhi. Meanwhile, the print journalism award was shared by journalist Khawla Ajifri from the newspaper “Assahifa” and journalist Nihila Al-Barhoumi from “Al-Alam” newspaper.

In the electronic journalism category, the award was received by journalist Khadija Ali Moussa from the website “Al-Awwal” and journalist Jamal Amadouri from “Al-Omq Al-Maghribi.” The visual award was granted to journalist Ibrahim Al-Marzouqi from the Moroccan channel and journalist Abdel Moulah Boukhreis from “Medi1 TV.” The audio award was presented to journalist Mariam Boutaout from national radio and journalist Ibrahim Eshwi from the Amazigh radio. The photography award was divided between photographers Munir Amhimdat from “Hespress” and Mohamed Waraq from “Al-Ahdath Al-Ilectroniya.”

In his speech, the Speaker of the House remarked that the award is not merely a celebration but an expression of the belief that democracy requires free and responsible media. He emphasized that the relationship between Parliament and the press has significantly improved in recent years, as evident in the notable increase in nominations from 11 in the first edition to 57 in this one.

Talbi Alami praised the joint organization of the award by both councils, stating that legislative and supervisory work can only achieve its goals with responsible media engagement that enhances public awareness and promotes a culture of participation. On his part, the President of the House of Councillors noted that the award reflects a commitment to establishing it as a permanent institutional initiative that reinforces the official recognition of national journalistic work in covering parliamentary issues.

Walid Al-Rachid suggested organizing joint training sessions for journalists interested in parliamentary affairs in partnership with professional bodies, to support specialization and strengthen the relationship between media and the legislative institution. Meanwhile, the Head of the Jury, Mohamed Laghrour, confirmed that the number of nominations increased by 120% compared to the previous year, praising the diversity of topics and perspectives covered in the submitted works.

Laghrour provided recommendations for enhancing the award, including increasing its financial value and creating special awards for the Maghreb Arab Press and journalists accredited by international channels, emphasizing that the award has contributed to enhancing the media presence of the legislative institution and deepening its connection with society.
