Casablanca Leads North African Cities in Quality of Life Index for 2025
Casablanca has risen to the forefront of North African cities in the Quality of Life Index for 2025, ranking 260th globally according to the semi-annual report released by the international platform “Numbeo,” which specializes in measuring living indicators.
This ranking reflects the city’s central position in both economic and cultural spheres, despite challenges related to traffic congestion and environmental pollution.
Morocco is positioned 70th out of 89 countries included in the global Quality of Life Index, achieving a score of 114.1 points. This places it third on the continent, following South Africa and Tunisia. This ranking underscores the kingdom’s stable performance in international indicators in recent years, particularly amid ongoing social and economic reforms.
The report noted improvements in key sub-indicators, including a decrease in the cost of living compared to other countries, a relative increase in citizens’ purchasing power, the classification of local climate as comfortable, and an acceptable level of safety in major cities. Conversely, it highlighted the need to enhance the performance of vital sectors, especially transportation, infrastructure, and healthcare services, which remain key areas for sustainably improving quality of life.
The government’s push toward supporting urban renewal projects and improving infrastructure is expected to bolster the rankings of Moroccan cities in the coming years, especially with the growing emphasis on decent living conditions and the quality of public services as a developmental priority.
