Boubid Al-Mu’tasim Ends His Life by Hanging After Assaulting Rescue Team Members in Ouled Youssef

A man in his forties, named Boubid, took his own life by hanging early Saturday morning after more than two weeks of a sit-in atop a water reservoir in the Ouled Youssef area of Beni Mellal province, a tragic incident that has left the local community in shock.

According to available information, the deceased committed suicide around 2:35 AM on Saturday, July 12, following a night of heightened tension, during which he assaulted a civil protection officer, attempting to kill him and inflicting serious injuries before throwing him from the top of the water tank. The officer was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment. A member of the public forces also sustained a serious head injury during the intervention attempts.

The deceased had been on a sit-in for over 15 days, demanding an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of his father, a retired soldier, which he described as “mysterious.” This led local authorities and royal gendarmerie officers to attempt to convince him to end the sit-in on several occasions.

The body of the deceased was transported to the morgue, while the royal gendarmerie has opened a judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor to uncover all the details surrounding the incident.
