Exclusive: Wydad Athletic Club Close to Signing Dutch Defender Bart Meijers

Wydad Athletic Club is reportedly on the verge of signing Dutch defender Bart Adrianus Johannes Meijers, 28, on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Bosnian club Borac Banja Luka. This move is part of the club’s strategy to strengthen the team’s roster in preparation for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup this month.

Meijers boasts substantial experience in both European and domestic competitions, having played 28 matches in the Bosnian league last season, where he was selected for the league’s best XI. He also featured in all of his club’s matches during the qualifiers for both the UEFA Champions League and the Europa League, totaling 8 matches, in addition to 10 matches in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

In recent hours, Meijers’ name has been linked with Sarajevo FC, the most decorated team in Bosnia; however, negotiations have yet to yield a final agreement between the parties, thereby opening the door for Wydad to advance in the deal.

Meijers developed his footballing skills at Dutch club NAC Breda and possesses technical and tactical attributes that would bring stability and resilience to Wydad’s backline, which aims to make a commendable appearance in the forthcoming global competition.
