On Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an announcement prohibiting the entry of nationals from several countries, citing national security concerns. The announcement imposes a complete ban and restricts entry from 12 countries: Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.
The White House stated that the announcement places partial restrictions on individuals from seven other countries: Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela. Abigail Jackson, a White House spokesperson, wrote on X, “President Trump is fulfilling his promise to protect Americans from dangerous foreign entities looking to come to our country and cause harm.”
According to a statement from the White House, the countries subject to the complete ban “were found to have deficiencies in vetting and screening processes, and it was determined they pose a significant risk to the United States.”
