A tragedy on the night of Eid… Dog causes the death of 3 passengers near Azemmour
The festive atmosphere of Eid turned into a tragedy as three people lost their lives and several others sustained varying degrees of injury early Saturday in a horrific traffic accident on the highway connecting Casablanca to El Jadida, near the entrance to the city of Azemmour.
The incident occurred when a bus carrying passengers stopped on the highway, prompting some passengers to disembark into the darkness. At that moment, a light vehicle traveling at high speed in the same direction attempted to avoid a dog that had entered the road, but the driver lost control and collided directly with the passengers.
The collision resulted in the instant death of three individuals, while the injured were transported to the hospital, some in critical condition. Relevant authorities, including the Royal Gendarmerie and Civil Protection, responded swiftly, and an investigation has been launched under the supervision of the public prosecutor to determine responsibilities and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The accident raises serious questions about safety conditions on highways, particularly regarding emergency stops and the compliance of passenger transport buses with safety protocols. It also highlights the danger posed by stray animals on these major roads, especially during peak travel times and group movements during occasions like Eid.
The night of Eid ended with three funerals and an open investigation that may reveal a series of human and structural oversights.
