Authorities in the Stavropol region of Russia have arrested four Moroccan students, suspected of involvement in the murder of a man in his forties who was found dead in a forest near the village of Sanamira, according to Russian media reports citing the regional investigation committee.

The sources indicated that the suspects, who were first-year students at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Stavropol, targeted the victim, later identified as a drug dealer, based on a contract they received through the dark web in exchange for financial compensation.

According to the investigations conducted by Russian police, the four individuals tracked the victim on the night of the 27th of last month and inflicted fatal blows with a baseball bat to various parts of his body, leading to his death. They attempted to flee, but security forces managed to apprehend them quickly and have since referred them for further investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to a statement from the Stavropol regional investigation committee, judicial authorities have opened a criminal case against the four Moroccan citizens under Article 105 of the Russian Criminal Code, pertaining to “murder committed cruelly by a person or group of persons for the purpose of financial gain,” noting that thorough searches and forensic examinations are being conducted to understand all aspects of the case.
