The electrical link between Morocco and France enhances the kingdom’s position as a competitive energy supplier in Europe

Leyla Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, confirmed that the electrical interconnection project between Morocco and France will bolster the kingdom’s regional integration and position it as a leading energy supplier in Europe, particularly due to the competitiveness of electricity generated in the southern regions.

In a statement to France 24, Benali explained that the green energy produced from solar and wind projects in Moroccan deserts is among the cheapest and most efficient in Europe. She noted that discussions with her French counterpart included attracting quality foreign investments in this strategic sector.

The minister emphasized that Morocco, thanks to its advanced infrastructure and investment capabilities, is affirming its status as one of the most competitive suppliers of clean energy in this century, amidst global energy transition trends.

The joint project between Rabat and Paris aims to enhance regional energy security and expand the electrical grid, enabling the export of significant amounts of clean electricity produced in Morocco to the French market, a step that solidifies the bilateral energy partnership and supports sustainable development goals in both countries.
