Saudi Arabia Bans Work Under Direct Sunlight to Protect Workers

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development in Saudi Arabia announced the implementation of a ban on work under direct sunlight, effective from June 15 to September 15, aimed at safeguarding the health and safety of workers in the private sector.

The decision affects all private sector establishments from Sunday, 19 Dhu al-Hijjah 1446 AH (June 15, 2025) until Sunday, 23 Rabi’ al-Awwal 1447 AH (September 15, 2025), daily from noon to 3 PM.

This measure is intended to protect workers from health risks associated with direct sunlight exposure and to ensure a healthy and safe work environment in accordance with international occupational health and safety standards.

The ministry urged employers to organize working hours in accordance with the decision to ensure a safe environment and reduce injuries and occupational diseases related to heat stress, contributing to improved productivity and work environment quality.

Additionally, the ministry has provided on its website the “Occupational Health and Safety Procedural Guide” and the “Guidelines for Preventing the Effects of Working in Hot Environments,” enabling establishments to implement preventive measures effectively.
