Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed that issues related to biological security have gained immense importance in light of global instability and the lack of progress in achieving the goals of the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention. Putin made these statements during the fifth International Scientific and Practical Conference titled “Global Threats to Biological Security: Problems and Solutions.”
Putin added that Russia is always ready to provide assistance in addressing biological threats, including outbreaks of serious infectious diseases, in any region of the world. The Russian president emphasized that cooperation in combating these threats must be based on principles of equality and respect for the sovereignty of all countries.
Putin stressed that Russia, along with its friendly partners, fundamentally supports the enhancement of collective mechanisms to contain the development and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction based on the use of disease-causing microorganisms and toxins. He noted that Russia places great importance on broad international cooperation and within the framework of regional initiatives and agreements.
