Laayoune: Agreement Signed to Enhance Economic Partnership Between Morocco and CEMAC Countries

Yesterday, in the city of Laayoune, a cooperation agreement was signed between the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises and the professional federations of the member countries of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC), as part of the Parliamentary Forum for Morocco-CEMAC Economic Cooperation.

The agreement was signed by Chakib Alj, President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises, and representatives of the professional federations from the member countries. The aim is to establish a "Morocco-CEMAC Task Force" as a joint mechanism for dialogue, coordination, and cooperation among economic actors on both sides. This task force will work to enhance the exchange of information and business opportunities, encourage joint project implementation, and facilitate communication between Moroccan enterprises and their counterparts in CEMAC countries.

The agreement stipulates the creation of a joint steering committee comprising representatives from both parties, responsible for forming sectoral working groups that include economic actors and experts to discuss strategic topics such as food industries, infrastructure, renewable energy, industrial transformation, and digital services. The parties also commit to facilitating partnerships through networking programs, organizing regular economic meetings, and promoting mutual investments.

Chakib Alj emphasized in a press statement the importance of the complementary nature between the Moroccan economy and the economies of CEMAC countries, highlighting that this initiative aims to foster dynamic relationships between enterprises and stimulate the transfer of knowledge and expertise. John-Daniel Oufaga, President of the National Federation of Economic Employers in Congo, noted that the agreement represents a collective commitment to building a unified Africa and fostering shared growth that benefits local populations.

The signing of the agreement is part of the context of the Morocco-CEMAC Parliamentary Forum for Economic Cooperation, organized under the auspices of King Mohammed VI, which aims to enhance economic and commercial partnerships between Morocco and member countries, and support African integration, especially in light of the activation of the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement.

The forum witnessed the participation of high-level parliamentarians, alongside representatives from the private sector and economic experts from the fields of energy, climate, and sustainable development, reflecting the institutional and developmental momentum that South-South cooperation in Africa enjoys.
