Morocco and Turkey Strengthen Cooperation in Road Safety and Maritime Navigation
The Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Turkey signed two memoranda of understanding on Friday in Istanbul to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of road safety and maritime pathways.
The signing was attended by Morocco’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdelhamid El Kiyouh, his Turkish counterpart Adil Karaismailoglu, and the Moroccan Ambassador to Turkey, Mohamed Ali Al-Azraq, on the sidelines of the Global Transport Connectivity Forum.
The first memorandum focuses on road safety, with Minister El Kiyouh emphasizing Morocco’s interest in Turkey’s experience in securing freight transport via trucks and adopting technological solutions to reduce traffic accidents. The second memorandum aims to bolster Morocco’s national maritime fleet, aligning with the recent royal address highlighting the importance of developing Morocco’s maritime transport capabilities and benefiting from Turkey’s pioneering experience in maritime navigation and shipbuilding.
Morocco is participating in the Global Transport Connectivity Forum with a high-level delegation led by the Minister of Transport and comprising senior officials in the fields of transport and road safety. This international event, organized by the Turkish Ministry of Transport with support from the World Bank, runs from June 27 to 29.
The forum serves as a strategic platform for exchanging views and expertise among decision-makers, government representatives, international financial institutions, the private sector, and experts on mechanisms for developing global transport corridors. Its agenda covers crucial topics related to sustainable development, the transition to a green economy, digitalization, artificial intelligence, financing infrastructure projects, and expanding international connectivity networks.
This Moroccan-Turkish cooperation comes at a time when the Kingdom is seeking to diversify its international strategic partnerships in the transport and logistics sectors, as part of a broader vision to enhance economic sovereignty and achieve sustainable transformation.
