Laayoune Hosts African Parliamentary Summit to Enhance Economic Cooperation
Laayoune received a high-level parliamentary delegation from the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC), led by Everiste Ngamana, as part of preparations for the parliamentary forum on economic cooperation held under royal patronage.
The African delegation, representing six countries, conducted a field visit to the OCP Group in Fosboucraa, where they were introduced to the advanced industrial system that has positioned the region as a significant economic hub. Delegation members expressed admiration for the technological advancements and infrastructure they witnessed, viewing it as a model for industrial development on the continent.
Mohamed Laaraj, President of the House of Councillors, held an extensive working session with his African counterpart, discussing ways to enhance parliamentary and economic exchanges between the two sides, with a focus on activating cooperation mechanisms within the framework of the Continental Free Trade Area and addressing common challenges in climate change and food security.
The forum features broad participation from parliamentarians and business leaders, with its agenda including working sessions on the role of the private sector in supporting African integration, the prospects for developing renewable energies as a lever for sustainable development, and discussing ways to enhance food security in light of climate changes.
This visit comes as part of Morocco’s African policy aimed at strengthening South-South cooperation, with representatives from Cameroon, Congo, Chad, Gabon, and the Central African Republic participating in the forum. This initiative seeks to propel economic cooperation between Morocco and Central African countries to new horizons.
