A highly dangerous terrorist plot has been thwarted following the arrest of a radical student affiliated with ISIS in Rabat.
The Central Bureau for Judicial Investigations, based on precise intelligence provided by the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance, apprehended a 21-year-old woman studying at a higher technical institute in Rabat on Friday. She is suspected of being involved in the preparation and planning of a terrorist scheme that poses a serious threat to public order.
According to a statement from the Central Bureau for Judicial Investigations, the suspect was arrested in Rabat as part of operational cooperation and informational coordination between the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance and French intelligence services. This collaboration allowed for the identification of the individual and the monitoring of her extremist plans, ultimately thwarting her terrorist project before it could be executed.
Preliminary information received thus far indicates that the suspect had indeed engaged in preparing terrorist projects by acquiring skills in explosives and poisons, as well as securing some necessary equipment for an operation targeting a religious site in Rabat.
The search carried out in this case led to the discovery of flammable materials, writings promoting extremism, and books advocating for intolerance and radicalism in the suspect’s possession.
Furthermore, the statement noted that the suspect is being held under investigative custody while the Central Bureau for Judicial Investigations conducts its inquiry under the supervision of the public prosecutor tasked with terrorism cases. This investigation aims to uncover the parties involved in recruiting her and facilitating her advancement in radicalism, as well as to identify her potential connections with various terrorist organizations.
This security operation once again highlights the importance and effectiveness of preemptive measures to confront the terrorist threats looming over the country, especially in the context of global terrorist organizations and their regional affiliates intensifying attempts to target the kingdom’s security and the safety of its citizens.
