A heatwave is sweeping across Morocco, with temperatures exceeding 47 degrees Celsius.

Starting Friday, June 27, 2025, the kingdom is experiencing an extreme heatwave classified as “Cherki,” which has been noted as early compared to the usual climate averages for June. This heatwave is expected to last until at least next Tuesday, according to the General Directorate of Meteorology.

The peak of this heat is anticipated on Saturday and Sunday, June 28 and 29, when temperatures are projected to surpass seasonal averages in several regions, potentially reaching over 47 degrees Celsius in some areas.

The special bulletin released by the Directorate outlined the following temperature distribution:

– Over 35 degrees Celsius along the northern and central Atlantic coasts.
– Above 42 degrees in the Atlantic plains.
– Between 42 and 47 degrees in the interior plains, the little Atlas regions, the southeastern areas, and within the desert provinces.

The Directorate urged the public to adopt healthy precautionary behaviors to avoid heat-related risks, especially among the most vulnerable populations, by:

– Ensuring adequate hydration.
– Avoiding direct sun exposure between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
– Refraining from physical exertion and sports activities during peak hours.
– Paying attention to vulnerable groups such as children, infants, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses.
– Adhering to safety measures for maritime activities amid increasing beach attendance.

Furthermore, authorities stressed the importance of following official weather bulletins from the General Directorate of Meteorology to stay informed about the evolving climate situation and related alerts.
