Eight Fires Controlled Nationwide in One Day

On Thursday, eight fires were reported in various regions of Morocco, including six in forest areas and two outside them, according to a statement from the National Agency for Water and Forests. The agency confirmed that all these fires were completely controlled thanks to rapid on-site interventions and the vigilance of the relevant authorities.

The agency clarified that, regarding the current situation of forest fires, the total area affected reached approximately 20 hectares, distributed among the provinces of Tetouan (15 hectares), where efforts continue to extinguish some smoking hotspots, Khénifra (3.5 hectares), Chefchaouen (1.1 hectares), and Khemisset (0.095 hectares). Additionally, a limited fire broke out in the Yeddlt region due to a natural lightning strike, with an area not exceeding 10 square meters. Fires were also recorded in Casablanca (0.02 hectare), Taza, and Sidi Slimane outside of forest areas.

In a broader national summary, the agency noted that from January 1 to June 20, 2025, a total of 111 fires were recorded, which is below the ten-year average of 130 fires. Furthermore, the burned areas did not exceed 130 hectares, representing a reduction by four times compared to the average of the past ten years.

It is worth noting that these fires occurred despite an alert issued by the agency on June 15, warning of an increased risk of fires in several provinces including Azilal, Beni Mellal, Chefchaouen, Kenitra, Khemisset, Larache, Tanger-Assilah, Tetouan, Mdiq-Fnideq, Taza, Nador, Al Hoceima, and Ouazzane.

The agency concluded its statement by urging citizens to exercise utmost vigilance and awareness, warning against igniting fires in natural spaces and discarding cigarette butts or flammable waste. It emphasized the importance of immediately reporting any smoke or suspicious behavior to the relevant authorities to protect forest wealth and ensure the safety of lives.
