Knife Crimes: Minister Lftig Reveals Arrest of 7,144 Individuals Including 784 Minors
Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit disclosed that security services handled a total of 6,780 cases related to knife crimes in the first three months of 2025, resulting in the arrest of over 7,144 individuals, including 784 minors. Additionally, approximately 5,180 knives were seized.
In response to a written question from Mohamed Chouki, head of the National Rally of Independents group, which "Telquel Arabi" obtained a copy of, Laftit stated that security services and local authorities are mobilizing all available resources and taking necessary measures to combat crime, particularly those linked to knife use, considering its direct impact on citizens’ sense of security.
The government official emphasized that the security situation and crime map are studied regularly in meetings of regional security committees that include various relevant agencies.
Despite these numerical data, the Interior Minister stressed that recorded crimes, whether in terms of number, type, or geographical distribution, do not reach a level that qualifies them as an organized crime phenomenon, contrary to what is sometimes claimed.
