The unemployment rate decreased to 13.3% in the first quarter of 2025.

The High Commission for Planning announced a reduction in the number of unemployed individuals in Morocco by 15,000 during the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, bringing the total from 1,645,000 to 1,630,000 unemployed, equivalent to a 1% decrease.

The Commission detailed in a memo on the labor market situation that the unemployment rate fell by 0.4 points during this period, decreasing from 13.7% to 13.3%. There was a drop of 1 point in urban areas, where it fell from 17.6% to 16.6%, while there was a slight increase of 0.5 points in rural areas, rising from 6.8% to 7.3%.

This decline also encompassed gender disparities, with the unemployment rate for men decreasing by 0.5 points from 12% to 11.5%, and for women by 0.2 points from 20.1% to 19.9%.

In contrast, the unemployment rate for young people aged 15 to 24 rose by 1.8 points to 37.7%, compared to 35.9% a year earlier. Meanwhile, other age groups experienced relative improvement, with the rate for those aged 25 to 34 dropping by 0.8 points from 22% to 21.2%, for those aged 35 to 44 declining by 0.5 points from 8% to 7.5%, and for those aged 45 and over decreasing by 0.6 points from 4.5% to 3.9%.
