The repercussions of the altercation in the House of Representatives continue… Ouzin clarifies his position regarding the accusations from the Istiqlal group.
The Istiqlal group sent a letter to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, requesting an urgent investigation into what it described as “offensive remarks” made by Ouzin against Deputy Al Ayashi Al Farfar. They argued that the incident contradicts the norms of the legislative institution and tarnishes its image in the eyes of the public, especially given the live broadcast of the session.
The group further asserted that the session president exploited the podium to attack a parliamentary deputy, noting that his statements contained provocative and unacceptable insinuations. They deemed it necessary to record the session’s content and present the incident to the Ethics Committee, in order to safeguard the dignity of Parliament.
In response, Mohammed Ouzin addressed these accusations in a statement to “Express TV,” stating that the discussion had been taken out of its actual context. He added that the Istiqlal group is attempting to “defend a parliamentary behavior that contravenes the internal regulations,” instead of signing a committee to investigate matters related to public funds. Ouzin indicated that the concerned deputy intervened without permission, interrupting his speech on behalf of the government, and asserted that it is the behavior of the person who committed this act that warrants investigation.
Ouzin confirmed that his remark “I refuse such models” was a response to inappropriate behavior witnessed in the chamber, but expressed his willingness to withdraw it if the mentioned deputy retracted his conduct. This was subsequently done, as Al Ayashi Al Farfar announced his withdrawal of what he had said, justifying his actions as a reaction stemming from his feeling that the session president interrupted his colleague’s statement. Ouzin replied to this clarification by retracting his statement and offering a sincere apology during the session.
Despite this temporary understanding, the Istiqlal group chose to pursue institutional action by formally requesting an investigation, reflecting a clear political tension within the majority. This raises questions about the ability of parliamentary groups to manage their internal disagreements without resorting to escalatory measures in public sessions.
