The management of Nador prison denies the circulated claims regarding the conditions surrounding an inmate’s death.

The administration of the local prison in Nador has issued a clarifying statement in response to circulating claims on various websites regarding the circumstances surrounding the death of an inmate, asserting that many of the published allegations are untrue.

The administration clarified that the inmate in question, named S.G., was admitted to the facility on May 23, 2025, and not ten days prior, as some media reports suggested. The statement added that the prisoner underwent a routine medical examination upon arrival and was seen by the prison doctor on May 26, 2025, who prescribed “Ventoline” for asthma and instructed that an appointment be arranged for him with a specialist in respiratory diseases.

The administration emphasized that the inmate had not formally requested to be transferred to a non-smoking wing, contrary to what was circulated. The statement noted that on the night of May 26, at 11 PM, the inmate complained of difficulty breathing, leading the on-duty nurse to administer an additional dose of “Ventoline,” after which his condition temporarily improved.

However, on the morning of May 27, 2025, during the morning roll call, the inmate was found deceased in the shared room he occupied. The administration reported that the appropriate judicial authorities were immediately notified, initiating the legal procedures typically followed, including conducting an autopsy to ascertain the cause of death. The inmate’s family was also informed in accordance with legal provisions.

The statement concluded by stressing the administration’s commitment to transparency and respect for the health and legal rights of all inmates.
