The management of the local prison in Ben Ahmed responded firmly to what it described as “malicious claims” featured in a video posted on YouTube by an individual known for spreading false news. The video alleged that a female inmate had been assaulted by the head of security and discipline, which supposedly resulted in a broken nose.
In a clarifying statement directed at public opinion, the prison administration explained that the incident, which had its facts distorted, occurred on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at approximately 2:45 PM. The inmate in question, identified as H.B., refused to comply with a request from a staff member to go out for a recess, as is standard for other inmates. Instead of following instructions, the inmate provocatively pretended to be ill, subsequently erupting in a fit of yelling and threats towards the staff member.
The statement revealed that the head of security and discipline, having heard the commotion from within the prison, approached the source of the noise without initially recognizing the inmate’s identity. He asked her to stop causing a disturbance, to which she responded with foul and derogatory language. Accompanied by several staff members, he went to the women’s wing where the inmate, along with three others, continued her tumultuous behavior, including stripping off her clothes and slapping her own face.
The statement further noted that the prison director personally arrived at the scene and found the inmate in a hysterical state of shouting and threats. He then ordered the customary disciplinary measures due to her breach of internal rules by creating chaos and refusing to follow instructions.
The administration emphasized that contrary to what was shown in the circulated recording, the inmate did not suffer any broken nose; rather, she exhibited only self-inflicted marks from slapping her own face. The public prosecutor has been informed of all details regarding the incident, and the inmate has been referred to a disciplinary committee, in addition to being denied access to the telephone service for abusing it in a way that disrespected the prison and its staff.
The statement concluded by reaffirming the administration’s commitment to respecting inmates’ rights within the framework of the law, asserting that attempts at defamation and misinformation would not deter them from fulfilling their duties in a manner that upholds justice and the dignity of all.
