The Kanitira Court sentenced three individuals to 21 years in prison, imposing a fine of 10,000 dirhams each, after they were found guilty of possessing and trafficking drugs, including psychotropic tablets.
The details of the case date back to April 10, when security forces, in coordination with the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance, apprehended two suspects in a car at the city’s entrance.
A search operation led to the seizure of 3,077 psychotropic tablets, including “Rivotril” and “Ecstasy,” as well as quantities of cocaine and hashish, along with suspicious amounts of money believed to be from trafficking activities.
The third suspect was later arrested, and all three were placed under judicial supervision before being presented to the public prosecutor, who decided to pursue charges against them while in custody.
The court deemed their actions serious and issued the prison sentences and fines as part of efforts to combat the rampant issue of “captagon” trafficking that has become a concern for the city’s residents.
