Abdel Samad Guiouh, the Minister of Transport and Logistics, has asserted that the transport and logistics sector is a pivotal anchor in Morocco’s vision to enhance economic competitiveness. He emphasized that the Kingdom is working to establish itself as a leading logistics hub at both the African and Mediterranean levels.
Guiouh inaugurated the 12th International Exhibition of Transport and Logistics in Africa and the Mediterranean yesterday in Casablanca. He highlighted that the ministry continues to strengthen infrastructure by developing ports and airports, expanding road and rail networks, and creating modern logistics platforms.
The minister pointed out that the Moroccan Agency for Logistics Development is currently implementing a program covering projects to develop logistics zones spanning a total area of 750 hectares. He noted the marketing of the logistics zone in Qalayat, along with anticipated projects in Casablanca, Kenitra, and Fez in 2025, giving special importance to the southern regions, particularly Dakhla and Guergarate, in support of the Kingdom’s Atlantic initiative.
Guiouh emphasized that the royal directives have contributed to laying the foundations for a modern and sustainable logistics sector, thanks to legislative reforms and structural projects. This provides Morocco with an opportunity to enhance cooperation and partnerships and to develop a logistics system that meets the needs of the local market and supports economic development.
For his part, Abdel Latif Mezzouar, President of the Casablanca-Settat Regional Council, stressed the structural dimension of the region, which produces about a third of the gross domestic product and accounts for nearly half of foreign trade and national industrial production. He affirmed that logistics services play a crucial role in enhancing the region’s position nationally and continentally.
Mezzouar explained that the regional council prioritizes transportation infrastructure, allocating more than 11 billion dirhams to develop the road network, while also focusing on urban and regional rail transport as part of the regional development plan for 2022-2027, in preparation for organizing the World Cup.
The International Exhibition of Transport and Logistics will continue until May 15, under the slogan “Supply Chain in Morocco: Industry for Competitiveness, Sovereignty, and Economic Development,” and serves as a platform to evaluate the progress of the national strategy in the field and to anticipate upcoming transformations in light of rapidly evolving international challenges.
