Pakistan: 26 Killed in Indian Attacks
The Pakistani army has announced that at least 26 people have been killed in Indian attacks on Pakistani targets.
According to a statement from the Pakistani army, 46 people were injured.
Earlier, India launched cross-border missile strikes against Pakistan, claiming to have targeted shelters of armed groups responsible for the attack that occurred in late April in the disputed Kashmir region, which resulted in the deaths of at least 26 civilians.
Indian reports indicate that at least three civilians were killed in Pakistani shelling in the Indian-administered part of Kashmir.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan has “every right to respond appropriately to this act of aggression imposed by India, and a suitable response is now being executed.”
Sharif’s office reported that he attended a meeting with his security council on Wednesday, which includes army leaders and senior intelligence officials, to discuss the current situation between the two nuclear neighbors.
Meanwhile, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar stated that Pakistani missiles shot down five Indian fighter jets.
Pakistani military sources told the German news agency (dpa) that they have begun targeting military infrastructure in the Indian-controlled portion of Kashmir.
