Medical Campaign for Cataract Surgery in Ifrane
The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity continues its medical campaigns by organizing a surgical campaign on May 30 and 31 at the regional hospital in Ifrane, specifically for cataract surgery to benefit low-income residents from the Ifrane province.
In a statement, the foundation announced that it will conduct surgical operations for 150 beneficiaries as part of its ongoing commitment to improving access to healthcare for vulnerable groups.
The beneficiaries of this campaign come from twelve municipalities affiliated with the cities of Ifrane and Azrou, particularly from the communities of Tamhadit, Dayaat Aoua, Tazekit, Bekrit, Sidi Mehfi, and Ain Louwah.
The beneficiaries were selected from patients diagnosed at the mobile medical unit—Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, located in Sidi Mehfi, as well as at the regional hospital in Ifrane.
A selection process was also organized by the teams mobilized by the foundation on May 7 and 8 at four locations: downtown Ifrane, Sidi Mehfi, Tamhadit, and Azrou.
In total, 911 medical consultations were conducted by general practitioners, ophthalmologists, and biological technicians deployed by the foundation.
This phase allowed for the diagnosis of new cases requiring surgical intervention, alongside a general health assessment of all patients through surgical indicators (ophthalmology consultations and biological tests).
The surgeries will take place at the regional hospital in Ifrane, where two operating rooms equipped with four surgical centers have been prepared for this purpose. This campaign is made possible thanks to the commitment of institutional and civil society stakeholders in the Fes-Meknes region.
A multidisciplinary medical team comprising more than 50 individuals, including volunteer ophthalmic surgeons and the operating room staff at the regional hospital in Ifrane, will oversee patient care. They will also be supported by foundation staff, including medical professionals, social workers, and paramedics, to ensure the smooth conduct of the operations and support for the beneficiaries.
This initiative is organized in collaboration with and supported by local authorities, the regional directorate of Fes-Meknes, the regional health and social protection delegation in Ifrane, the regional hospital in Ifrane, as well as the Hassan II University Hospital in Fes and the “Friends of the Visually Impaired in Fes” association.
