King Mohammed VI: Morocco is Open to a New Arab Dynamic Based on Dialogue and Shared Sovereignty

King Mohammed VI reaffirmed Morocco’s full readiness to engage in any genuine Arab dynamic that enhances joint Arab action and meets the aspirations of peoples for security, stability, and growth.

In a speech delivered to the 34th Arab Summit held in Baghdad, read by Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, the King emphasized that the delicate situation in the region necessitates sincere political will. He stressed the importance of adhering to the principles of good neighborliness, respecting state sovereignty, rejecting interventions, and embracing separatist movements.

The King stated that any effectiveness in joint Arab action begins with reforming the institutions of the Arab League, based on consensus and unifying visions, to address major challenges such as food and energy crises, water scarcity, and climate change.

The speech then shifted to the economic aspect, where the King called for the establishment of genuine Arab partnerships, particularly in the fields of renewable energy, technology, and artificial intelligence. He considered these areas as leverage for sustainable green development.

In this context, the King expressed his regret over the stagnation of the Arab Maghreb Union, noting that the North African region remains the least economically integrated within the Arab world, despite its natural resources.

The speech reflected Morocco’s ongoing commitment to contributing to resolving Arab crises and rejecting the logic of force. It highlighted Morocco’s efforts regarding the Libyan file, affirming the Kingdom’s role in facilitating dialogue among Libyan parties.

Regarding Syria, Morocco renewed its steadfast support for the Syrian people, with the King announcing the decision to reopen the Moroccan embassy in Damascus, which had been closed since 2012, to support the normalization of relations between the two countries.

The King concluded his speech by expressing Morocco’s concern over ongoing situations in Yemen, Sudan, and Lebanon. He confirmed that Morocco continues to support all peaceful initiatives aimed at resolving conflicts through dialogue while respecting state sovereignty and unity.

This speech reflects Morocco’s adherence to a rational Arab policy based on cooperation, resolving disputes through dialogue, and building a shared developmental space that meets the expectations of peoples, rather than conflicts and disputes.
