Abdelatif Hammouchi, the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, paid a working visit to the Austrian capital, Vienna, on May 6 and 7, leading a security delegation representing the two security institutions.
The visit coincided with the participation of the Moroccan delegation in the 22nd regional meeting of intelligence and security heads from the Middle East and North Africa, alongside countries such as Turkey and Pakistan. The meeting was organized by the United Nations through the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team at the Vienna International Center.
Morocco’s involvement in this international meeting reflects its ongoing commitment to enhancing collective security and its readiness to share its expertise in combating terrorism and organized crime with various partner countries.
Discussions at the meeting addressed the transformations of the “ISIS” and “Al-Qaeda” organizations, particularly regarding their loss of traditional strongholds and the growth of regional branches, as well as an assessment of expected risks in the short, medium, and long term.
The talks also covered the mechanisms for financing and arming these groups, methods for concealing and laundering funds, and updates on the propaganda and communication strategies they employ in their operations.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Hammouchi held a series of bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and the UAE. These discussions focused on common security challenges and ways to enhance security and intelligence cooperation among the involved countries.
This visit strengthens Morocco’s position as a reliable partner in the field of regional and international security and reaffirms the active role of Moroccan security agencies in major forums as key players in promoting global stability.
