Bensaid: “I support freedom of expression and cannot sue journalists even if they make mistakes”

Mohammed Mahdi Bensaid, the Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, confirmed that the ministry has completed drafting a new press and publication code, which will soon be presented to the government to finalize legislative procedures.

Bensaid explained during a presentation to the Education, Culture, and Communication Committee that, as a minister, he supports freedom of expression and cannot sue journalists even when they err.

The aforementioned minister emphasized that sometimes a journalist may make a mistake or publish false information or incorrect data, so they promptly issue a correction in a statement and send it to the concerned media outlet, adding, “Sometimes it may not be published, and other sites take on that responsibility.”
