Baleària Launches New Maritime Route Between Tarifa and Tangier Starting May 8

The Spanish shipping company Baleària announced on Tuesday the opening of a new maritime route linking the port of Tarifa in southern Spain with the port of Tangier city, effective May 8.

In an official statement, the company clarified that this new route will initially operate via the fast ferry "Avemar Dos," which has successfully completed docking trials at both ports. This marks the fourth route in the company’s network connecting Spain and Morocco.

Baleària revealed that the initial schedule will include four daily trips in each direction, with the possibility of increasing the number of trips during the summer season based on demand. The travel time is expected to be no longer than one hour.

The company indicated that a second ship will later join the route following maintenance and upgrade works, which will bolster the operational capacity of this vital maritime line.

The company’s General Director, Jorge Bassol, affirmed that launching this route represents a "strategic step" to enhance Baleària’s presence in the Moroccan market, highlighting the significance of the project in supporting maritime connectivity and exchange between the two shores of the Mediterranean.

Baleària emphasized its commitment to energy transformation, planning to construct two fully electric fast ferries free from emissions to operate on this route by 2027, as part of its efforts to move towards sustainable maritime transport.

Baleària has been active in Morocco since 2003, providing several maritime lines between Spanish and Moroccan ports, especially across the Strait of Gibraltar, and continues to expand its network to include new destinations between the two countries.
