Akhannouch Defends Results of “Leadership Schools” and Pledges to Train a New Generation of Moroccan Youth

The Prime Minister, Aziz Akhannouch, defended the preliminary results of the “Leadership Schools” project, describing it as a “pioneering experience” that heralds a promising future for Moroccan education. He emphasized that this initiative achieves “significant transformations in students’ cognitive levels” and contributes remarkably to “remediating essential learning.”

During the monthly question session addressed to the Prime Minister in the House of Representatives on Monday, Akhannouch confirmed that reforming the education system is a sovereign and strategic choice for the government, aimed at creating a “new generation” of Moroccan youth capable of meeting future challenges and contributing to building a sustainable development Morocco.

Akhannouch explained that, under royal directives, the government has set an ambitious roadmap for education reform (2022-2026), focusing on three main pillars: the student, the teacher, and the school. He noted that a substantial budget exceeding 85 billion dirhams has been allocated to implement this reform, compared to 68 billion dirhams in 2019, believing that comprehensive reform of the educational system requires providing the necessary financial resources.

The Prime Minister revealed encouraging results from the “Leadership Schools” program, which aims to improve foundational learning among students. These schools have shown a significant improvement in students’ cognitive levels, effectively closing learning gaps by one to two academic years. He announced the expansion of this program to include 2,626 primary institutions, comprising over 1.3 million students.

He also pointed out that his government has launched a new initiative for “Leadership Preparatory Schools,” aimed at reducing school dropout rates and enhancing students’ capabilities in preparatory education. This initiative, involving 230 preparatory schools, focuses on four main aspects: supporting the institutional project, providing preventive interventions and personalized support for students, accompanying teachers and equipping them with effective pedagogical practices, and enhancing students’ personal growth and development.

Akhannouch underscored the importance of training educational staff, mentioning that the government has a new vision for training and continuous education, stemming from ongoing support for educators in classrooms and regular evaluation of learning outcomes. He confirmed the allocation of a budget nearing 4 billion dirhams to train primary and secondary school teachers, aiming to enhance the quality of education in the country.

The Prime Minister reviewed several achievements his government has made in the education sector, including resolving the contracts issue definitively, securing the positions of over 115,000 employees, implementing a general salary increase, disbursing additional compensations, and organizing promotions. He noted the ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction of educational institutions affected by the Al-Haouz earthquake, providing social support for students, and maintaining textbook prices.

Akhannouch emphasized his government’s commitment to continuing the development of a quality, successful educational system for future generations, and an innovative university system to achieve social uplift for the youth of tomorrow, building a Morocco of sustainable development and dignity that befits the future of our children and upcoming generations.
